Car Care

From Lincoln to Lamborghini and from Mercedes to Mini Cooper, the cars were under tender loving care all day long. Crews moved from car to car, dusting and shining and sprucing up the floor models constantly.
With that noted, my blogger's version of the Auto Show closes and we head back outside in the next post.

Viper & The Model's Kicks

One of the display muscle cars with a powerful presence at the Auto Show was the Dodge Viper. Three models were on display, and the attractive model we saw in the previous post was there to attract attention. One of my favorite photos of her, though, includes only her ankles. Loved the kicks, platform style, and the reflection made them irresistible.
If you look beyond the two cars into the background, you will see another photographer shooting another shot of her.
A few more cars to check out before my version of the Auto Show closes.

Stylish Model at the Auto Show

Tradition has it that the Chicago Auto Show is filled with beautiful models pointing out the beauty of each car. I attended the show on Tuesday, so perhaps the weekends see more of the platforms featuring the models; I only saw three models working with jsut two of the autos.
Since my normal mode of photography is candids, I rarely have the opportunity to photograph someone who is used to being photographed and knows how to pose quickly and successfully. Here we see one of the two, snapped as quickly as any candid, along with an experiment in stylizing the photo into a cartoon drawing.

High Energy Exhibit

The floor space with the highest energy in the entire Auto Show was the Toyota area. Despite their recent problems as reported in the news, they had Robbie Gould, the Chicago Bears kicker, along with high-energy bucket drummers and three large tall display cases making real Toyotas look like huge Matchbox cars.

Budget Busters

Beautiful, aren't they? Start saving up for the budget-busting prices as shown. I intend to be content with my Mercury Milan.

Displays

Cars at the Auto Show are displayed in many ways, from small tableau with trees on a revolving pedestal to hanging vertically on a wall. Both beautifully lit, too!

Wild Option?

It struck me as humorous that one of the cars I saw seemed to be equipped with a strange option as seen here. Wonder how much it costs? Wonder who goofed . . .

Army Vehicles

The US Army featured the most massive vehicles at the Auto Show, including a pair of Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected Vehicles. Not so catchy as the old "general purpose vehicle, better known as the Jeep! Old dark camouflage color has been replaced by a lighter matte finish. I did not think to ask if the new color scheme is affected by the use of such vehicles in desert settings. It is a good theory, at least.

Back to Auto Show

Some of the most eye-catching automobiles at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show were some of the oldest. An attractive section of the floor space was devoted to Model T Fords, mostly from the 1920s.

Show Cars

Taking a circular route through the exhibit areas took me at random through most of the show cars, special finishes, exhibits, and so forth before getting to the 2010 and even 2011 cars. Here are some of my eye-catchers among the show cars.

Chrome

Back in the mid-60s, Jan & Dean sang "Drag City," describing a car as "looking real tough with chrome reverse wheels." At the Auto Show, a series of shelves was filled with a myriad of chrome, none at the budget price level, but most of them looking pretty shiny and attractive; perhaps even "tough."

Go Karts Included

Two karts seen at the Auto Show were these, a classic souvenir of Soap Box Derbies along with a pricey ride for sale today. Bet Joey and Bobby would like Poppa to have one; for that matter, Gianna & Carolyn would have some fun in it. (Not going to happen!)

Everything Automotive

My first visit to the Chicago Auto Show in at least 30 years was wonderful fun for a photographer who loves to look at cars. Everything automotive was there, from loads of cars to special detailing and painting, chrome wheels -- and a new comupter mouse, wired or wireless (your choice) in the shape of your dream car.
More images from the Auto Show are on the schedule for upcoming posts, including the milestone 400th post later this week.
