Stark Wintry Look

Two more images from the roadside park in Schaumburg, showing the stark images under the cold cloud cover of winter. Without the gentle softening of the snow and with the gray sky, the colors are there but are stark and muted.

Snowless Winterscape

Shortly after we returned from Minnesota, the temperatures around Chicago spiked up into the 60s. Within 36 hours, the sizable snow cover disappeared. A trip to a nearby park on a subsequent freezing morning yielded these images, interesting but very much the opposite of the Minnesota shots.

Final Snowy Winterscapes

It was a short trip to Minnesota but a wonderful one. We had Christmas presents for Mom, two chances to visit, and a family dinner in a nice little restaurant. On the way home, I snapped some Winter Wonderland photos. These two images are the final two we will see on this blog, but the trip gave me at least a dozen of my favorite winterscapes ever.

Frosty Farmhouse

Two more images from the frozen tundra of Christmas-time in Minnesota. The farm buildings nestled into the stand of frosty trees really shows the area at its prettiest. The image of the tree alone on a ridge would therefore be the area at its loneliest.

Back to Winter

Welcome to the first work week of 2011. We return for a few more posts looking at my favorite winterscapes, all collected on a post-Christmas visit to Minnesota.

SUNDAY POSTER

The first Sunday Poster of the New Year. Might even suggest a good New Years Resolution!

Suddenly Out of Context

Our look at photos from a trip to Minnesota less than a week ago continues with these silvery trees, now suddenly out of context to a Chicago area man who saw the entire winter snow collection melt into nothing in 36 hours at the end of 2010.
At any rate, welcome to 2011 and have a Happy New Year. Nearing my second anniversary of this blog, I intend to continue to show some powerful images this year, most of which are yet to be taken. I will continue to publish Sunday Posters and Sunday Poems as well. See you in the next post!
