Re-Enactors

One of the highlights of the Geneva Memorial Day Parade were several Re-Enactors in full dress who took part. Ernie Klapmeier rode Nighthawk in his uniform as a British Coldstream Guard officer, while his daughter Tiffany and her fiance Brian Jones rode in Brian's restored Willys in their uniforms as members of the British Army during World War II.

Memorial Day, Geneva

The Memorial Day Parade in Geneva was an outstanding event. A local resident, who is a retired colonel, gave a fine speech, the cemetery was filled with the stars and stripes, and a good crowd showed up to enjoy the sunny day.

Fill 'Er Up?

Our drive from Ottawa ended up in Odell, where our friends live along historic Route 66, long since replaced by Interstate 55 as a major traffic artery. Along that way is a former Standard Oil Service Station, now an attractive museum to bygone times.

Workplaces and Hometowns

The trip through central Illinois showed plenty of workplaces, farm structures as seen here with a long freight train running by. But it also lead into and through several small towns, each with its own charm in the misty afternoon.

Architecture

Skylines? Tall buildings? Apartment complexes? No, not in Illinois farm country. But the architecture is still a great thing to collect with a camera. As always, the beauty of a building is in making its utility fit the structure and look beautiful at the same time. These certainly qualify.

Farm County, Rain

Following the rainbow seen in the previous post, we had an hour's drive in Central Illinois. Here are two images with electricity-producing windmills, one under a dramatic sky and the other dominating farm buildings.
